“Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word. Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.” (Psalm 119:17, 18)
Recently Trans World Radio received a letter from a visually impaired listener from Eritrea:
“I am a disabled person with no eyesight. I lost my sight when I was a child due to a severe case of measles. My family are farmers and when I became ill my parents could only afford traditional treatments. Today my mother regrets the consequences of that decision very much.
I was then sent to a small town to live with my uncle and to attend school. He was a God-fearing man, compassionate and generous, and took me in. But his wife was not as kind. She did not want me in her home and insisted on sending me back to my parents (our village has no suitable education and medical facilities). My uncle never gave up trying to convince his wife to let me stay. Unfortunately my uncle passed away and I was thrown out of the house.
To make a long story short, a poor aunt of mine took me in and supported me while I continued my education and graduated from secondary school. I am now enrolled for studies in the art college with a new hope, new life and new spirit. God has visited me. I have a close friend who introduced me to the radio ministry and through the radio to God. God has opened my spiritual eyes, which enabled me to see the truth, life and hope which God offers to me. No regrets at all for missing the physical sight.
Thanks be to God for His wonderful plan and purpose. I meditate often and ask myself: "If I had stayed in that remote village still able to see, what would happen to my spiritual life and to the relationship I have with God?" I am blessed to have eyes that can see God's love and mercy, the promise of eternal life, and experience the joy that the Lord Jesus Christ gives to those who believe in Him.
Thanks also to you for the radio you offered me; many of my friends, especially my roommates, often sit with me to listen and are interested in the message of the Bible lessons being broadcast. Many souls are receiving the good message of the Gospel. God is really opening a way for His people. Stand firm on His service, one day you will get a reward for what you are contributing.
May God bless you and the radio ministry.”
