Because of the ever-increasing needs of the local people, TWR is currently constructing a much-needed new studio and office building in the city of Mocuba, Mozambique. The purpose of the project is to establish a Christian FM station to broadcast to the Lomwe and Makhuwa people.
The project is in full swing and phase two is nearing completion. Early in September, 2008, Mr. Chuck Saunders travelled to Mocuba to deliver additional studio equipment for installation.
When they arrived, Chuck started working on the air conditioning. The unit had been working before lightning damaged the boards. Chuck replaced the boards and yet the units still didn't work. Finally he decided to swap the phases and the problem was resolved. It seems the power company probably changed them around when they did alterations on the main line.
The next day Chuck and Nelson unpacked the equipment for the studio and checked the computers. It was a good thing they did, because one of the CPU fans had come loose and they would have had an early failure if it had not been caught. Nelson worked on connecting the equipment as Chuck mounted the four speakers on the walls.
The team proceeded to do sound absorption tests in the three studios. The two smaller studios were fairly simple to test, but the large studio proved more of a challenge in finding the right balance.
Chuck’s next trip to Mocuba will entail installation of sound absorption boxes in the large studio and small control room. They will also send a shipment via Malawi with additional materials needed.
