Come talk to the Whole of Africa!

A Christian can never be too careful about what he prays for as Anthony Barkhuizen discovered when he prayed the Jabez prayer back in the mid 1990’s.  As Jabez prayed, so did Anthony, asking God to enlarge his territory - and God put him into the hot seat as Director of TWR’s Broadcast Department for the TWR Africa Region.

After five years in management, Anthony joined the SABC as news reader for Radio Algoa in East London. Three years later he joined the team at a radio station operated by a local Baptist church and soon became Station Manager.

It was during his time as Station Manager that Anthony found himself cornered by a TWR missionary with a few challenging questions, ‘What are you going to do when you grow up?  Come and talk to the whole of Africa!’

The result: Anthony and his family moved to Kempton Park, South Africa, to take the role of TWR Director of Broadcast Relations.

As Broadcast Director, Anthony cares for a team of 11 TWR staff members, receiving radio programs and processing them for broadcast across Africa.

“It’s our job to make it all happen,” says Anthony with passion for ministry.  “After a programme is broadcast we see to follow-up in terms of audience relations, responding to people who write to us after hearing a programme. We get about 5000 responses (which include letters, emails, SMS & phone calls) from all over Africa each year.  Many [people] ask for bibles or material to help them in their Christian lives.”
