6% of the Angolan population is presently infected with HIV/AIDS. Much of this could be prevented if information were available to remote, rural areas of Angola. TWR is preparing a magazine-style programme to inform, encourage and care for victims and families with HIV/AIDS. The programme is being developed in the Umbundu language which is the largest ethnic group in Angola. It will impact Umbundu speakers as the programme shares with them the reality of HIV/AIDS and ways to help them change their sexual behaviour in hope that the rate of affected people may decrease by 2011.
A radio production on HIV/AIDS directed to the Umbundu people in Angola will contribute towards the Sixth Millennium Development Goal, which is to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. It will specifically contribute to the goal’s target: to halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015.
Through this programme, Trans World Radio – Angola will continue to contribute to the improvement of the lives of those in our communities by giving accurate information within the cultural context.
