Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s economic and political crises have resulted in the deterioration of basic services, and collapse of the education and medical systems. Poor living conditions exacerbate the spread of disease and thousands of Zimbabweans have fled to neighbouring countries.

Almost 1.8 million people are living with HIV/AIDS, the unemployment rate is high, and many people are struggling to survive. Although there has been some improvement since the formation of the Government of National Unity, the country still has a long way to go.

  • TWR produced a series of Healthy Life programmes in response to the 2008/2009 cholera epidemic.

  • Witness at the Water introduces children to Jesus Christ and teaches them how to live in a way that honours Him.

  • Programmes such as The Entrepreneur are designed to assist listeners in starting their own faith-based small businesses.

Radio for Zimbabwe: Where Grace and Courage Meet

Life is tough in Zimbabwe. People living there are facing problems that sometimes seem insurmountable.

TWR produces programs that meet these intense issues with practical answers based on spiritual principles. There is optimistic hope among the Zimbabwean people that the worst of times are behind them. It is vital that the radio lifeline continues to reach millions of people seeking God, until the time of crisis in Zimbabwe is truly passed.

Thirteen essential programmes, between 15 and 30 minutes in length, are aired by TWR in African English, Shona and Ndebele to the people of Zimbabwe with partial or no financial sponsorship. A few of the programmes are aired daily - such as Radio Bible (Bible reading programme) and Honey that Kills (HIV/AIDS programme) – while others are aired once per week – Nguva Yevana Vadiki (Shona children’s HIV/AIDS programme) and Impilo Egcweleyo (Shona young women’s programme). Other programmes in this package include magazine-style radio for youth (13-27yrs) and the highly popular programme Tools for Wise Leadership (programme which equips leaders of quality and principle).

You can help us minister to the hearts of Zimbabwe's people through your prayer and support. A gift of $50 or more would make a lasting difference.

Healthy Life - Dr. Luke

TWR Africa, pro-active during the recent cholera outbreak, believes God will use the Dr. Luke – sanitation, nutrition and personal hygiene series to heal the people of Zimbabwe, offering comfort, hope and salvation. Even though life in Zimbabwe seems to offer little hope of a future, a life in Christ Jesus offers hope for eternal life.

The programme, focusing on diseases that affect the internal organs of the body, drawing on external issues that contribute to illnesses, will be produced in the Shona language. 80 percent of the people of Zimbabwe use the Shona language as their primary means of communication.

Health needs in Zimbabwe need to be tackled through persistent programme delivery to ensure that the message reaches every city and home. TWR Zimbabwe seeks to continue with the production of the “Healthy Life” series but looking at other topics other than cholera which will go a long way to help the health of the Zimbabwean.

The Entrepreneur

In the African nation of Zimbabwe, drought, chronic shortages, HIV/AIDS and hyperinflation are leading to a national crisis. Men and women struggle to make ends meet, to feed their families and care for their home villages. Those who wish to start their own small businesses lack training, resources and the experience of a solid Christian professional to show them the way to financial stability and independence.

Seeing this need, TWR-Africa has developed The Entrepreneur, a program in the Shona and African English languages, designed to assist listeners in starting their own faith-based small businesses. Each week, The Entrepreneur will discuss a broad range of topics such as finances, marketing, customer care, community responsibility and biblical mentoring. It is hoped that not only will these faith-based businesses improve the lives of their owners and families, but entire communities as well, gradually lifting Zimbabwe out of its economic crisis.

Your gift of $75 or more will help people in Zimbabwe start small businesses on solid ground.
